Leopard print, ruffles, performance fabrics and a little ’80s nostalgia. GANNI and lululemon are bringing dance-inspired style into everyday wardrobes.

Some fashion collaborations just make sense. Others catch you off guard in the best possible way.

GANNI x lululemon feels like a bit of both.

On one side, there's GANNI, the Copenhagen-based label known for playful prints, unexpected silhouettes and its effortlessly cool approach to getting dressed. On the other, lululemon, a brand built around movement, technical fabrics and everyday comfort.

Together, they've created a collection that feels like an ’80s dance film reimagined through a very Copenhagen lens.

Launched on October 15, 2026, the 22-piece collection brings together apparel, footwear and accessories, mixing performance wear with GANNI's unmistakable personality.

And there's plenty to talk about.

A little Flashdance, a little Copenhagen

The collection takes inspiration from the energy and aesthetics of 1980s dance films, when rehearsal clothes became fashion statements of their own.

Think bodysuits, layers, leg warmers, relaxed silhouettes and pieces designed to move with you.

Now add leopard print, ruffles and GANNI's signature playful styling.

That's where things get interesting.

GANNI's creative director, Ditte Reffstrup, has spoken about growing up with dance films and how those memories helped shape the collaboration.

Rather than recreating the decade exactly, the collection captures something more appealing: the freedom, confidence and self-expression associated with dance.

The references are nostalgic, but the clothes feel surprisingly current.

And honestly, that's what makes the whole thing work.

The pieces worth a closer look

The collection reimagines some of lululemon's most recognisable styles, including the Define Jacket, now given a distinctly GANNI makeover.

Expect statement leggings, ruffled jackets, mesh bodysuits, wide-leg trousers, boleros and dance-inspired accessories.

Lululemon's technical fabrics, including Nulu and Softstreme, also feature in the collection, bringing the comfort and movement-focused design the brand is known for.

What I find most interesting, though, is how easily some of these pieces could work outside a workout.

A ruffled jacket with your favourite jeans? Absolutely.

Wide-leg trousers with a simple top and trainers? Even better.

And leopard print has a way of making even the most basic outfit feel a little more intentional.

You don't necessarily need to wear the entire look as styled in the campaign. In fact, I think the collection becomes even more interesting when you start mixing the pieces with what you already own.

Jennifer Beals, METTE and a campaign that gets it

The campaign, Joy Is a Power Move, brings together Jennifer Beals, the star of the iconic 1983 film Flashdance, and singer and dancer METTE.

It's a clever pairing.

Jennifer represents one of the most recognisable moments in dance-film history, while METTE brings a contemporary perspective shaped by music, performance and fashion.

Together, they connect two generations without making the campaign feel like it's relying entirely on nostalgia.

Set in a dance studio, the visuals focus on movement, energy and expression.

And that matters.

Instead of simply photographing models wearing dance-inspired clothes, the brands have built a campaign around the feeling that inspired the collection in the first place.

It's a small distinction, but it makes the storytelling feel much more considered.

Is activewear finally having more fun?

For years, athleisure has been dominated by neutral leggings, matching sets and minimal pieces designed to take you from Pilates to coffee.

And there's nothing wrong with that.

Especially in Scandinavia, where comfort and practicality are a natural part of everyday style.

But there's definitely room for something less predictable.

The GANNI x lululemon collaboration explores exactly that: functional clothing that doesn't have to sacrifice colour, personality or a sense of humour.

It's also very much in line with the way Copenhagen style has evolved.

The most interesting looks aren't necessarily the most polished or perfectly coordinated. They're the ones that mix references, play with proportions and feel personal.

A little unexpected. A little playful. Still completely wearable.

That's the kind of activewear I'd love to see more of.

What makes this collaboration different?

Beyond the clothes themselves, I think the partnership says something interesting about where fashion and activewear are heading.

GANNI has built a strong identity around individuality and creative styling, while lululemon brings technical expertise and a clear understanding of how clothing needs to perform.

Neither brand has completely abandoned its identity for the collaboration.

Instead, they've found a shared space between fashion and function.

And that feels much more relevant than simply putting two logos on the same product.

It also reflects a broader shift in how we dress.

The lines between workout clothes, casualwear and fashion have been blurring for years. What we're seeing now is a more expressive version of that idea.

Less about dressing for one specific activity, and more about finding pieces that fit into different parts of our lives.

Is the GANNI x lululemon collection worth buying?

As with most limited-edition collaborations, I'd separate the excitement of the launch from what actually makes sense for your wardrobe.

There are some genuinely interesting designs here, but you don't need a full matching set to enjoy the collection.

I'd start with the pieces that have a life beyond the gym.

A statement jacket you can wear with clothes you already own. A pair of versatile trousers. Or an accessory that adds something unexpected to an otherwise simple outfit.

Those are the pieces I'd be most interested in.

It's also worth remembering that not every fashion-forward activewear piece is designed for every type of workout. Checking the fabric, fit and intended use is always a good idea.

And if you're investing in something from a limited collection, I'd want it to be a piece I genuinely love — not just something I feel I need because it's part of a collaboration.

Where to shop GANNI x lululemon in Europe

Availability, sizing and prices may vary by country, particularly with a limited-edition release.

If you're shopping from Sweden, I'd recommend checking local shipping options and stock before deciding on a piece.

More than just workout clothes

What I like most about this collaboration is that it doesn't try to turn activewear into something completely unrecognisable.

Instead, it plays with a simple idea: movement and personal style can absolutely belong in the same conversation.

Lululemon brings comfort, technical fabrics and functionality. GANNI adds the kind of personality that isn't always easy to find in performance wear.

The result feels like a nod to dance culture, but also an invitation to have a little more fun with the way we dress.

And maybe that's what makes this partnership worth paying attention to.

You don't need to be heading to a dance class to wear something that makes you want to move.
