Equalberry Bakuchiol Serum Review: A K-Beauty Find Worth Knowing

Every now and then, I find a skincare product that makes me stop scrolling and actually look up the ingredients.

The EQUALBERRY Deep Cera Bakuchiol Plumping Serum was one of them.

Between the growing interest in bakuchiol, barrier-focused skincare and Korean beauty formulas, this serum sits right in the middle of several skincare trends I've been following lately.

But beyond the pretty bottle and K-beauty appeal, what actually makes it interesting?

First: what is bakuchiol?

Bakuchiol has become particularly popular among people looking for alternatives to more traditional retinoid-focused routines.

It's a plant-derived skincare ingredient frequently used in products targeting the appearance of fine lines, texture and overall skin quality.

You'll often hear it described online as a "natural retinol alternative", although I think that comparison can sometimes oversimplify what are actually different ingredients.

I'd rather look at bakuchiol for what it is — another interesting ingredient that can have a place in a well-balanced skincare routine.

What makes the Equalberry serum interesting?

The name gives us a good clue:

Deep Cera + Bakuchiol + Plumping.

Rather than focusing solely on one trending active, the concept is much more aligned with the current shift towards combining active skincare with formulas that also support hydration and the skin barrier.

And personally, I find that approach much more interesting than skincare that simply tries to include the strongest possible active ingredient.

Healthy-looking skin isn't only about exfoliation or actives. Hydration and maintaining a comfortable skin barrier matter too.

The kind of routine this fits into

This is the type of serum I'd consider when I want my skincare routine to feel nourishing without becoming complicated.

You could build a simple evening routine around:

Gentle cleanser → serum → moisturiser

And during the day, always finish your routine with sunscreen.

If you're already using several strong active ingredients, however, there's rarely a reason to introduce everything at once. I prefer adding one new product at a time so I can actually understand how my skin responds to it.

Bakuchiol or retinol?

This is probably one of the first questions people search when they discover bakuchiol.

And the answer isn't necessarily that one is universally "better".

Retinoids have a much larger body of research behind them and remain an established category in skincare. Bakuchiol is a different ingredient that has become particularly interesting for people exploring gentler-feeling routines.

Your choice should ultimately depend on your skin, your goals and the rest of your routine.

If you're dealing with a specific skin condition or you're unsure about introducing active ingredients, a dermatologist can give you much more personalised advice than any beauty trend can.

Why K-beauty keeps getting my attention

One thing I appreciate about Korean skincare is how often the experience of using the product receives as much attention as the ingredient list.

Texture, layering and hydration matter.

That makes many K-beauty products particularly appealing if you're someone who enjoys skincare as part of an everyday ritual rather than simply chasing the strongest formula available.

The Equalberry serum fits nicely into that world.

Is it one to put on your K-beauty list?

If you're interested in bakuchiol, Korean skincare and plumping serums, I think this is exactly the kind of product worth discovering rather than buying simply because an ingredient is trending.

For me, the appeal is the combination: a modern active ingredient, hydration-focused skincare and the kind of formula that can fit into a relatively simple routine.

I'll always choose that over a bathroom shelf full of products I never actually use.
